So, I've been away from the blog for a while. A long while. While I was away, I've been to a lot of new places, met so many wonderful people, and have recently become engaged. Since I wasn't the girl who planned her wedding at the age of 12, I have a lot of catching up and learning to do.
I've decided I'm going to write about my experiences in this wedding planning process since it's so overwhelming. Honestly, I had no idea how crazy and expensive and complicated and unkempt this experience would be. Maybe, just maybe by reading about my experiences, you (or your friends or kids or someone) might have a little less stress building up to wedding day.
Before I begin on my learnings, I'll start by saying, "I have no idea what I'm doing!" I work in the world of software engineering where I'm surrounded my men and wedding talk, shoes, manicures, etc, never comes up in conversation; and all my girlfriends are single. Everything I'm going to write is from my experience.
So, I think weddings should represent the couple 100%. I don't think every wedding should look and feel the same, and it's ok to have a lot of 'you' touches. My fiancee and I have been long distance (1200 miles) for our entire relationship, and over that time, we've gone to 10 states to see each other. He's a southern country Texas boy, with the cowboy boots and all; and I'm a somewhat classic Southern Belle from Virginia. Our wedding will be "Vintage Travel Americana" with lace, pearls, cowboy boots, suitcases, classic cokes, a '66 mustang... because that's us.
Figuring out a vision is the most important part to planning our wedding. It's helping everything else fall into place and gives us an idea of what we want the day to look and feel like for our friends and family.
Once the vision is there, everything else can start to fall into place- from the lists, to diy experiences, Etsy shopping, I'll try and tackle it all.
