Sorry for the rant...

but there is something I need to address. I am a computer science engineering major. Wait, before you put me in a box, before you judge me, just wait. Yeah ok, I know, I must be smart. Really, though, I must work hard. Oh and I must be a nerd. What does that word mean anyway?
Nerd- "An intelligent but single-minded person obsessed with a nonsocial hobby or pursuit: a computer nerd" -Dictionary.com

Oh sorry, you meant that I'm a geek.
Geek-"1. a computer expert or enthusiast (a term of pride as self-reference, but often considered offensive when used by outsiders.) 2. a peculiar or otherwise dislikable person, especially one who is perceived to be overly intellectual" - Dictionary.com

But, really! who are you? You don't know anything about me. As soon as I state my major, you judge me. Instead of finding out who I really am, I'm considered to be on a different level. You don't give me a shot because you don't even know me, and you think I'm weird. I want to get this straight.

Computer science IS a really difficult major. (My lack of social life is because of the amount of work this major is.)
Computer science is NOT all about programming. (That's information technology.)
Computer science could also be called INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY.
People with degrees in computer science make everything we can't live without- cell phones, iPods, laptops, X-Box's, PS3's, GPS systems... think about it.
Computer science CREATES the future... not doctors, not lawyers, not managers, not teachers, not politicians.

In the past few years... computer science technologies have started revolutions (Twitter in the Middle East), found the next stars (Youtube with Justin Beiber), raised over $35 million for the Red Cross (Texting and Haiti Earthquake), located  and reunited loved ones (Google and Japan Tsunami), raised 8.5 million dollars for water (MyCharityWater to provide water to the world)... and so much more.

So, if you want to judge me now for being a computer science engineer, go ahead. Just remember, one day, you may be using something I had a part in creating.

And for the record, I love adventures, board games, and I'm extremely social. I don't play computer games, I rarely play video games, and I never played with pokemon. And when I grow up, I don't want to be a programmer... I want to use innovative technology in ways that will change the world for the better.
